Kidney Match Found For Baby Kyia-Lyn McCormick!

April 15, 2004 -- Firedog Public Relations & Marketing, sponsors of the ‘A Kidney for Kyia’ campaign would like to announce that a potential kidney match has been found for 21 month old baby Kyia-Lyn McCormick from Thunder Bay, who is suffering with End Stage Kidney Disease and urgently waiting for kidney transplant surgery.

After neither of Kyia’s parents were found to be a compatible organ match, the “A Kidney For Kyia” fundraising campaign was launched last month in an attempt to raise proceeds and search for a suitable organ donor. Several local people from Thunder Bay have come forward over the past month, offering to be tested.

Testing was started amongst Kyia’s extended family circle and her aunt, Sheri Filograna, mother of four children, was found this week to be a match. Sheri will undergo extensive further testing over the next few weeks to confirm whether the organ transplant can go ahead.

Says Firedog Public Relations & Marketing;” It is heartbreaking to see parents and close family members wanting to donate an organ to save the life of their baby and miss the opportunity because of incompatibility. This news of a match has really lifted everyone’s spirits and given the family a concrete sign of hope for Kyia’s recovery.”

If all goes to plan and the results of further testing are positive, it is expected that transplant surgery may take place as early as this summer. Baby Kyia is returning to Toronto Sick Kid’s Hospital on Tuesday for further medical treatment after her sodium levels dropped dramatically this week.
